Dane Hip Resurfacing Dr. Brooks 2010
August 19, 2010 I am 3 weeks post op and doing great. (RBHP Dr.Brooks) Pain is very minimal. Last night I slept for the first time w/o any pain meds which I was taking mainly to battle my distaste for sleeping on my back all night. I can even lie on the surgical side now but would still rather not. Walking nicely w/ one or two crutches. My only real concern is about the one exercise I flat out cannot perform, that being the one that requires I draw my knee up all the way into my chest. I should say that at 56 YOA I have always been the worlds least flexible guy, am a good 50lbs overweight with front porch to match and have had arthritis most everywhere now for about 15 years – so I am not expecting to do this anyway, but this same motion is critical to putting on socks, pulling up pants etc. and I just can’t do it whereas before my surgery I could, albeit with some pain.
April 26, 2011 I traveled 900 miles to have my surgery with Dr. .Brooks back in July of 2010. I am walking pain free now and the only difference between my new side and my other side is slightly less ROM (very slightly) and a tendency to lower back soreness especially on the surgical side. Understand that I have had arthritis for 20+ years and at age 57 it ain’t gettin any better, so I am not surprised that the rest of my body would continue to deteriorate. Brooks is a good man and really believes in the surgery.
January 6, 2012 I think I may have some heterotopic ossification. But it only showed up on the one year follow-up X ray and the bone seems to be floating in the middle of muscle. There is no pain. I had the X ray done by a local surgeon who does not do resurfacing as I had my BHR operation many miles away with Dr. Brooks (who saw the same X-ray). He (the local guy) said it was very common. So I didn’t worry about it. I have had no pain whatsoever but have developed an occasional click when I walk. This isn’t always present, just some times. I inquired with Dr. Brooks’ PA about the click but he did not respond. So I didn’t worry about it.
