I just had my hip resurfaced in September of 2008 at
University of British Columbia/ Vancouver General Hospital. The surgeons name is
Dr. Greidanus. He used the Dorum/Zimmer prosthetic. He has been using it for
years. Fantastic surgeon! This implant is a good prosthetic! But, the surgeon
has to put it in correctly! Both my hips were bad but the right hip was the
worst. Its great now. Just have to work on flexibility. Now, the left hip is
starting to bother me. Probably down to the bone by now. But, will have my
family doctor do some x-rays to confirm before i contact the ortho doc.
I wanted to mention to all the patients that are having a tougher than normal
rehab. Visit your local pool and take advantage of the deep water keep fit.
Start to run in the water. I have a bulky, athletic build. I do not have a petit
frame. Put on a flotation belt and start to run, walk, stretch in the deep end
of a pool and float as long as you can. This really speeded up my rehab. Do not
get seduced by these internet athletes/hip resurfacing recoverees that are doing
marathons etc.
Every body is different and some people heal really fast and some are slow to
heal. Us bigger boys will probably take longer because we got more bulk and
muscle mass to stretch.
The muscles will loosen. It just takes some time and coaxing. Your website is
great. When times were tough and got tougher i read your website to keep my
sanity and the pain level down. |
