I am a 43 yr old surfer who jhas had difficulty getting to my feet the last two years. It sucks to feel like such a kook. I surfed on a longboard twice a few weeks back and it felt great to be in the water but I paid the price afterwards and it was painful to walk for a few days. I am getting a resurfacing done on December 8th and look forward to getting it over with and start moving forward.

December 13, 2008 Just got home yesterday from left hip resurfacing on monday performed by Dr Schmalzreid. Wanted to thank everyone on this website who were kind enough to help out with their kind words and information. I am moving a bit slow at the moment ( on two crutches) but know this is the price to pay to be able to get back to doing the physical activities I enjoy. Look forward to getting on with the rehab !

December 19, 2008 I am at 11 days post op and have been feeling much more mobile (with two crutches) The last two days I have been finding myself sitting at a chair most of the day and not much time laying down. Not sure if this is good or bad but I feel fairly comfortable. I did read in an old post about the clicking sensation which I have experienced this a few times today and it has me a little concerned but it seems like quite a few people have had this sensation.

February 23, 2009 I really want to thank a few people especially Pat for all of her time and passion on this topic and Hawaii Eric for his Aloha ! It was a bit frustrating at times going through my recovery as I seemed to be a slow healer. Dr Scmalzreid told me the day after surgery that my hip was a real mess and I should have had it done a few years earlier. At my 6 week he said all looks good and lifted all bending restrictions. I am still in aquatic therapy a few times a week and really feel the benefit of the stretching exercises they give me in the pool. I am about to start swimming laps again this week and I have set a goal to go surfing again by April or May. There have been a few days lately that I have seen the surf and I have really been getting the itch to get out there but I keep telling myself that I have waited this long so another 2 months will not be that long to wait. What a crazy road this has been but it is amazing to be able to walk and be positive again !

April 7, 2009 Went to the beach with my kids and stood in the shallows and pushed them on their boogie boards and kept seeing fun waves so I finally grabbed the longboard and went for a paddle workout. Felt a little stiff paddling but a nice little peak came right to me so i paddled for it and got up but it rolled underneath me but I jumped right up. Another wave came right away so I got it and was definiely slower to my feet but I rode it for about 25 yards and looked up and my wife and kids were cheering ! I got one more and did not want to push it so hard. Wow what a great feeling it was so happy George 4 months to the day post op
