Which hip resurfacing device do you prefer?
Birmingham is the one we use since it is FDA approved. Soon others will be approved. My personal preference is the conserve plus due to decrease acetabular angle; instrumentation and metallurgy.
What surgical approach do you prefer?
Posterior. Exposure is better and makes a very difficult operation easier.
How long do you feel it takes for the bone to be fully healed, grow into the prosthesis? What is the recommended time you tell your
patients before they can start to run again/do impact sports?
Running and impact sports can start at about 6 mos.
How do you feel about cementless devices? Do you prefer cemented and why?
Cemented acetabulum and cemented femoral component. True and tried!!!
Does the length of incision influence the rehabilitation?
NO
Do you preserve the hip capsule during your hip resurfacing surgeries?
No. I feel that the capsule is also diseased and should be removed.
Why is Hip Resurfacing better than a THR – for the proper candidate?
More conservative of bone; metal on metal and therefore decreased wear; greater range of motion and activity.
