Rob De Voto’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Rector 2010
I could not be happier with the miracle of Dr. Rector and my Birmingham Hip Resurfacing! My remade hip has allowed me to get back to my passions – the activities that I love – that were becoming very difficult to nearly impossible before the surgery. I went into surgery with Dr. Rector on October 15, 2010, at 52 years old, to receive a Birmingham Hip Resurfacing on my left hip. I had been in a slow, spiraling descent into loss-of-motion, gimping and pain over the period of about 8 years. It culminated in not being able to sleep at night, 10-12 pain relievers a day, and, most importantly for me, my having to bag out on the activities I love. This was an unacceptable situation for me and time to see Dr. Rector.
I was comfortable with Dr. Rector from the first time I met him. He has a confident, knowledgeable yet understated style that made me feel relaxed and sure about having the surgery. He came out of the operation saying that it went well and, boy, was that an understatement! I was starting light physical (PT) the afternoon of my surgery. I was home two days later and already doing PT exercises. I was swimming and doing an exercise bike at 6 weeks. I was jogging and flying in the wind tunnel at three months. I was mountain biking and skydiving at six months and I even got in a day of sking before the end of the 2010-2011 season! This year, less than two years since the surgery, I skied hard 10 days (and would have done more if conditions were better); I did two off-road triathlons including the XTERRA Indian Peaks; I ran a personal best in a 5-mile road race; and I made over 100 skydives – most of which were wearing 20 lbs of lead weight so that I could fall as fast as everyone else on the jump! And all of this has been made possible because of Dr. Rector. Dr. Rector’s competence and confidence in his work have brought me back to the extremely active person I was before. I absolutely recommend Dr. Rector and his Birmingham Hip Resurfacing procedure.
