Steve Arms Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Rector 2018
I had my left hip resurfaced by Dr. Rector on July 24, 2018. I am from San Diego and a lifelong surfer, tennis player, and yoga enthusiast. I first started to experience severe hip pain back in 2011. By the end of 2017 I could barely walk a half mile or sit on my surfboard while waiting for a wave to catch. The pain had become impossible to tolerate for my active lifestyle.
During the summer of 2017 I visited one of the only local surgeons with experience in hip re-surfacing. He told me I was not a resurfacing candidate for several reasons that didn’t make any sense. They were not any of the reasons that I had read about on line. He did, however, say that I was an excellent hip replacement candidate.
With the help of this amazing website and all other information I could find, I was convinced that I really was a candidate for re-surfacing. I was ready to pursue it.
From the very first phone call until my 3 ½ month post-op appointment, my entire experience with Dr. Rector, Maureen, and the entire staff at Boulder Community Hospital and Boulder Orthopedics was as easy as I could have imagined. After our initial phone call, I mailed a CD with x-rays to Dr. Rector and he called me in a week. After a short discussion, he told me I was a definite candidate.
I could also sense that he really cared and was a very confident surgeon. My wife and I prepared to fly to Boulder in July.
I was really nervous before the surgery but was soon at ease with the kindness and confidence of the entire staff and everyone involved. We returned to San Diego by the end of the week and I dove right into 3-4 hours of physical therapy per day, for about 4 months.
It is now 8 months post-op and my left hip is as good as new. I am surfing every day and playing tennis twice a week. I am getting ready to return to Boulder in the next year to have my right hip resurfaced. I have a strong feeling the second surgery will go even more smoothly knowing that I am in some of the best possible care.
Big thanks to Dr. Rector and his staff for getting me my life back!
