Booked in for bilateral CoC on 5 March in Brisbane with Dr Weinrauch. Feeling a little apprehensive about getting both hips done at once but surgeon said lefty is also too far gone for arthroscopy to be beneficial. So my choices were either keep getting steroid injections or do the surgery which didn’t seem like much of a choice really.

Had my bilateral CoC surgery today with Dr Patrick Weinrauch in Brisbane. AU. Feeling pretty sore and tired but otherwise going well. Pain meds have been making me dizzy so have yet to try to walk.

Day 2 post op – bilateral CoC. The surgery went well I’m told. I’m not going to lie, it’s been hell with pain levels through the roof despite taking a variety of analgesics. And some of the nurses have been a bit judgey when I ask for more pain relief which I find frustrating and disappointing. This is by far the most painful operation I’ve ever had and to be treated like I’m a big baby or a drug addict is not ok. This morning I finally started to feel a bit stronger and managed to shuffle to the bathroom using a walking frame and shower with help. Movement in general is very uncomfortable and I wear out really fast. There have been a lot of tears. Supposedly I’ll be going for an xray today.

First x-ray of my new hips. Surgeon is very happy with them

Really struggling to sleep at night for more than an hour or two at a time. Because I had bilateral CoC, I can only sleep on my back – usually wedged in by cold packs on either side. But for some reason my heels keep getting really sore (pressure points I guess) and I haven’t found a good solution for easing the discomfort. I’ve tried putting slim pillows under them and a rolled up towel under my knees but it’s only semi effective. Grateful for any suggestions of what might have worked for others. Thanks!

For anyone needing some hope or unsure about going ahead with surgery – it is totally worth it! – I am 6months post op from bilateral CoC and just spent 2 hrs zip lining and climbing obstacle courses in the trees. No problem at all! So stoked and no regrets at all.

Today marks 1 year since bilateral hip resurfacing surgery. Very pleased to report I am doing all the things I had hoped to – hiking, tap dancing, playing with my kids and lifting weights
