David Rosen’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Su 2019
It’s been 2 weeks since my surgery by Dr Su .I am very happy with the surgical outcome (so far) and also feel the HSS hospital is extremely professional. I traveled from Israel to NY ,was assigned a coordinator for overseas patients,Katherine Alcantara who escorted me on the pre-op examinations and helped with all the logistics. All email and phone consulting was handled very efficiently by Dr Su’s PA Jesse.
I was an active runner completing 8 marathons from 2005-2016. Around 2 years ago I started having pain during running .I tried Pilates &Phisiotherapy. After about 6 months I went to an Orthopedist who after examining my X-rays told me I have OA of my right hip. He suggested to wait as long as I can, stop all running, and then have a THR.
Over the next year and a half I visited several Orthopedists
who confirmed I need a THR and I should stop running. I finally went to one of the top THR surgeons in Israel,a runner himself, who suggested I look into hip resurfacing,a procedure he does not preform but may get me back running.
I found the hippy resurfacing site extremely helpful.
I decided to have the BHR device because it has the longest track record. I then looked up some of the most experienced surgeons and watched their surgeries on line. I was very impressed with Dr. Su’s surgical skills. As an implant dentist for the last 30 years I have seen many surgeries.
I enjoyed watching Dr Su’s skill and precision along with his cool and humble demeanor.
I had my surgery 2 weeks ago,Oct 11,2019.
A few hours after surgery I had a pt escort me for a short walk in the hospital. The next day I was discharged with crutches which I used for 2 more days. Then I started walking slowly unaided. After a week I flew back home. I was given a blood thinner for the long overseas flight. I feel some improvement every day and hope it continues. I have returned for a few hours of work after 10 days, hopefully I will slowly return to normal pace in the next few weeks. I got an ok from Dr Su to start swimming after 2 weeks. I’m usually a TI swimmer which doesn’t require much foot work but I’m trying to incorporate the breaststroke as Dr Mcminn recommends on his site. I want to thank Patricia for this site which is helping so many others return to the life they love. Of course special thanks to Dr.Su and his A team! I look forward to getting the ok to start running on soft surfaces at 4-6 months and hope to be able to post some runs on this site!
