20 years ago this week, I received my pair of Chromium Cobalt BHR metal hip implants from Dr. Koen de Smet in Ghent, Belgium.
I am so lucky, confident and inspired about my hips that I trained at Ten Kicks gym this week where my daughter fights and coaches…and celebrated my hips with 10 kicks on the heavy bag.

I had my left hip resurfaced by Dr. Brooks on January 18, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic and recently had my 10 year checkup on August 12, 2022. The left hip was perfect on the xray and, for the last 10 years I have had no excess Cobalt/Chromium ions in my blood. In the last ten years, I have not had a single issue with my replaced hip. Thought I would post another followup. I am 56 now, had this surgery 6 years ago. Still playing hockey 2-3 times a week as a goalie. Best money I ever spent!

Both hips done 12 years ago. Just finished 9 day, 100+ mile XC ski vacation at Lake Tahoe CA. Amazing trails and no issue with my hips, my wife complains I am faster with “ball bearing hips”. Enjoying the pain free fun outside.
