GMED’s Hip Resurfacing with Mr. Treacy 2020
April 3, 2020
I’ve waited until now because I didn’t want to jump the gun. I’m very aware that things can go wrong. I’m over the moon with my new Hip resurfacing. All the information on this web site about searching for a good Surgeon to rehab have been a god send. I have nothing to add about rehab apart from echoing the point “don’t rush things”. Walking 1 mile a day is all you need to achieve. I was walking with one cruch about a mile a day after 3 weeks, I have to ask myself , why. I pushed my self to walk 4 miles after 4 weeks why?. Im now 20 weeks and have been playing golf for the last month. At the start I could just about get through 9 holes, now I can walk 18, its a bit of a struggle down the last two holes, but I have no pain. I’m only just about to loose my limp, I have to concentrate very hard on walking. I see myself improving every day. Its not 100% yet but very close. To all you golfers out there I have never hit the ball so long and straight for 10 years. I can shoot my Hcap now even in winter. Once this lock down goes I will be flying. I play off a 5 Hcap. For info it was my L/H hip. I had been in agony, slowly getting worse for 5 years. Sleep was a trial, every night trying to get into a position where it didn’t ache or hurt. I tried gym work, stretching, massage. All gave temporary relief and then nothing worked. I urge people to watch the “Andy Murray ” film. I was just like that, kidding my self to wait, it might improve. I went to Birmingham to Mr Treacy. Best money I have spent. I will have the other done over this next winter.Once again thanks to this web site I have my life back. I do feel sorry to all those that it hasn’t worked for and I hope mine will stand the test of time. But to live pain free is beautiful at the moment.

Just coming up to 12 days post op R hip resurfacing. Every thing seems better than normal, I had my L hip resurfaced this time last year. I had put it off, my first op, for 5 years too long. Like every one else I tried sports massage, physio, weights. In the end It just said no more. I’d just hacked my way round nine holes and couldn’t get home again.
It was agony. Sitting in the bar after, a friend of mine said why didn’t I try BHR. I had no idea what this was. A total hip replacement seemed a bridge too far.
I researched this and found Mr Treacy, who said he could do it. It was difficult due to outward rotation of the hip, and associated further damage to the hip socket. My muscles had wasted quite badly. After the operation the hardest thing, for two weeks, was getting into and out of bed. I recovered and in September, this year, I was 3 under par, in a good, competition, through 16 holes but my fitness was not up to finishing the round. My right hip was stopping me from training on the tread mill and hurt like mad after 1 mile. No good for a 5 mile golf match.
I arranged to have my Right hip resurfaced and found a new sports coach. I built up to 5 days a week on the cross trainer, half hour at a time with no pain. Walking was still hard.
A day after my Right hip, operation I was up and found I could stand and walk unaided. Getting in and out of bed was so easy. I promised my self to use two crutches until I can walk 4 miles easily. 12 Days and I can do 3/4 of a mile and things feel great. What ever you do don’t rush things, I feel way within my comfort zone.
Just two things, do your home work, and get as fit as you can before the operation.
My goal this year is to do well in the National opens.
I still have a long way to go. read up all you can on this web site and relax.
