Best thing I have ever done! Got my left hip resurfacing with Mr McMinn in 1999 and 20 years later it’s still great. I’m an active person doing cycling, walking, swimming, gym and judo. A normal hip replacement would have probably been revised 20 years ago! Right hip resurfacing done in 2014 and perfect and still very active at nearly 67.

Big Show’s Original Story Here
According to The Big Show, who opted for a hip resurfacing over a full out replacement to preserve the possibility of returning the ring, he is faster now, has better range of motion, and has more to give in the squared circle.
“Right now, [my] quality of life is really good. There’s no stiffness. My range of motion is ridiculous.” Big Show said, “I’m not done in the ring yet. Hell, I’m 380 lbs. I feel now, especially in my hip, has more range of motion now, and I’m faster than I moved in 17 [or] 18 years. I wrestled with Fit Finlay a little bit at WrestleMania. I got in there and rolled around the ring with Fit and … Read the rest

“Since undertaking my hip resurfacing surgery, I have participated in more than 200 scuba dives in all kinds of conditions and locations, and attained a PADI Divemaster rating through extensive training and testing.
I have ridden my road bicycle thousands of miles, and completed 100 kilometer and 100 mile rides for charities. I do tai chi, and just returned from a downhill skiing vacation at Grand Targhee in Wyoming.
At age 59, I am considering having Dr. Rogerson resurface all of my joints, so that they work as well and as painlessly as … Read the rest

I just wanted to check in and show my recent yoga photo. I’ve come so far in the past two years and most can’t believe I am a bilateral hip patient. I recently completed my 200 hour yoga teacher certification. My ROM and flexibility is really great and is getting better every day. I see constant improvement!! In this photo I am hopeful one day the hands will grasp the foot….just need a little more openness in the hips and to lengthen the psoas a bit more.
So glad to have my life back!! Getting my hips done was the best thing I’ve done for myself.

My surgery date with Dr. Amstutz was 8/29/06.
I had been in considerable pain for four years
before the surgery, but thought it was do to
spinal stenosis. I saw Dr. Amstutz after Kaiser
diagnosed my right hip to be bone on bone
osteoarthritis and would need a replacement and
of course, to wait as long as possible. I met
Calvin Jung , an Amstutz bilateral through a
mutual friend and the hip resurfacing seemed the
way to go.
I had a great experience with the surgery.
Dr. Amstutz and this was, I might add, the first
time I have had any surgery or been in a
hospital other than to deliver my son in the
I had poor bone density and Amstutz was… Read the rest

Two weeks before my 40th birthday I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in both of my hips. The apparent cause of my arthritis was femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) coupled with almost 30 years of martial arts training. At the time I knew about the limitations of traditional hip replacements, especially for someone as young as myself, and I was devastated to say the least. The thought of never being able to train again (at least not anywhere near the level I was accustomed to) was very hard to deal with.
While researching my options I found the SurfaceHippy web site and … Read the rest
Eric B. wanted to return to power lifting and Brazilian Jiujitsu post-op and knew total hip replacement was not the best option for him
Six months following his left BHR he was back in the gym performing “clean and jerks” with good form. He has returned to Brazilian Jiujitsu at Twisted Fitness as well!
“Dr. Rogerson raises the bar for physicians and surgeons. As a RN I’d be happy to work with the likes of Dr. Rogerson and his team. As a patient, I’m grateful for his expertise and the expertise of his entire team.”
Eric the afternoon following his left BHR
“Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Rogerson has let me return to the things I love… Powerlifting and Brazilian Jiujitsu.”

I had the Birmingham hip resurfacing procedure performed on my right hip by C. Anderson Engh, Jr., M.D. on June 3, 2008 at Mt. Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia. On August 1, 2009, 14 months after my surgery, I performed a 507 pound deadlift at the NASA (Natural Athletes Strength Association) World Cup Power Sports Championship in Oklahoma City. This lift was a NASA Power Sports world record in the 60+ age group of the 198 pound weight division.

I am a kajukenbo practitioner and have learned that I need to get my hip resurfaced. At first I was all for re-leaving all this pain but after talking to the doctor and several people I have my doubts. First my doctor tells me that there will be limitations in my movement. For example, I would not be able to lift my knee past my hip or even do a high chamber for a roundhouse kick. Then I heard from someone that not all the muscles in my leg would be reattached because there was just no way of doing that (I took this one with a grain of salt). I was also concerned about the metal particles and what the long … Read the rest
