Fifty-one-year-old Robert Bailey, a native of UAE, was suffering from pain in his left hip over the last five years that not only affected his daily life, but also his career of a physical education teacher.
His only option was having a Birmingham hip resurfacing, which is a complex joint reconstructive surgery done at specialized centers. Robert underwent the surgery at SIMS hospital recently and is back on his feet after complete recovery.
Speaking on the surgical treatment Dr Vijay C Bose, joint director and senior consultant, Institute of Orthopaedics SIMS said, “The Birmingham Hip Resurfacing technique offers many advantages to the patient, saving bone stock as the hip joint bone is not removed and only a cap is fitted on the femoral head, which … Read the rest

Had my hip resurfacing done by Vijay Bose in Chennai, India in March of 2007. No problems 10 years later. If your bone density is good having a hip replacement is a no-brainer. You would be a fool to get a total hip replacement. Dr. Gross, from what I understand, is one of the best in the US. In 2007, very few doctors were doing THR’s and McMinn told me Bose was one of the best so that is how I ended up in India. Good luck to everyone contemplating this lifestyle saving procedure. Don’t wait, as I did. Do it before your body and mind are so stressed that you are forced to do it. You will be thrilled you did.… Read the rest
Benny Axelsson, Former Swedish National Soccer Player and Coach underwent Birmingham Hip Resurfacing at Apollo Hospitals, India.
Dr Vijay C Bose speaks on the advantages of BHR and why he chose to perform the procedure on the former Swedish Soccer Player and Coach, Benny .
April 4, 2016 – Its about a tad over 8 months now and I am walking between 7 to 10 km a day, I feel that its the right distance for me.
Mr. Schmidt, who was once part of the pre-Olympics team for skiing, arrived on January 26 for a hip resurfacing procedure – a procedure he hoped would give him unrestricted movement and the ability to carry on with his many sporting activities.
…I wrote to Dr. Bose, he explained the procedure to me, and a date was fixed for January 28…
…The procedure, explains Dr. Bose, is different from conventional hip replacement in that it does not replace the femoral head (head of the thigh bone). “The head is kept intact, and we put a cap on it – a metallic cap made of an alloy of cobalt and chromium. The advantage with this is that not only does it preserve … Read the rest

This is my first post and I am scheduled for bilateral hip resurfacing by Dr. Bose in July this year.
I am nervous as hell as I have never spent time in hospital let alone an operation of such calibre. I am scared of the general anaesthetic the most and how I will feel when (if) I wake up.
My background is that I am a 44 year old male that has had quite an active earlier life. I played basketball in my younger years and also to some degree gymnastics although not so good at it. I played golf, football, cricket, skiing and surfing. My flexibility has been always quite rigid and at the age of 34 I was told that … Read the rest

Jonathan Lourie 49 year old male. LBHR. August 2011.My story begins a few years back when I started to feel pain in my left hip. Not Yoga, acupuncture or massage seems to help for long term pain relief. So after much research and communication with many hip resurfacing doctors around the world, I decided to come to India for the operation. Dr Bose is probably one of the top 3 surgeons in the world and I decided that having the best surgeon was the most important thing, probably more important than the device they put inside and where you get it done. Dr. Bose has done thousands of operations of this kind, and nothing beats experience. So although 200-400 may be ok for some,
IN PRAISE OF DR. BALASUBRAMANIAN (COIMBATORE, INDIA)
In January, I had my left hip resurfaced by Dr. Bose in
both hips were almost equally bad (bone on bone), Dr. Bose
reluctant to operate on both, so I had the left hip operated
home to Chicago and hoped for the best.
right hip began
getting worse, and after about 5 weeks, it became apparent
that I’d have to
have it resurfaced too. I was extremely depressed for a
couple of days, and
then I decided to stop crying about it and just get it done
as soon as
possible. I read Gregg Dean’s e-mail on the surfacehippy
website about a
Dr. Balasubramanian who charged only $5000. Dr. Bose … Read the rest

His words warm me. I usually feel sidelined and irrelevant to his generation, a nuisance really.Four years ago, I consciously began to withdraw from the world, narrowing my focus to those things I need to do before I die. Now my son is inviting me to venture into cyberspace. I begin cautiously at his blog, “Bottles & Bones” at blogspot.com. The title memorializes items Lars and Kerrie found in the land they bought from her parents to build their home in the woods. This semi-scary adventure led them to blog. From their familiar terrain, I find my… Read the rest

Surgery Date: April 11, 2013
Age: 51 years old
Physician: Dr. Bose
Hospital: Apollo Hospital, Chennai, India
RECOMMENDATION – Words cannot adequately express what a life changing experience my hip resurface has been . I am now 8 months post surgery and enjoying all the sports and physical activities that I’ve always loved , with absolutely no limitations . A year ago I was at the complete opposite end of the spectrum. I had literally ground to a halt with severe bone-on-bone cartilage deterioration and a lack of viable options had me backed into a corner. Any solution involving the US medical system w as going to be time consuming , extremely costly, and there was … Read the rest
Jane S’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Bose 2008
I returned from having my hip resurfaced by Dr. Bose in Chennai on April 18, 2008.
For years I was told by my local orthopeds that I had a compressed disc leading to nerve impingement which was causing severe sciatica. They sent me to a neurosurgeon who recomended, yup you guessed it, surgery – that would be neurosurgery. Being a yoga teacher, I was skeptical, did my online researh, saw that the success of back surgery is about 5% (!5%!) and decided against that. Since I am currently a yoga teacher, I decided that I would try yoga first and etc etc.
It was my Thai massage therapist who was keeping me running, who determined that the … Read the rest
