Jeff’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Rector 2010
Jeff’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Rector 2010
April 28, 2010
I’m two weeks post op from Rector as well (LBHR on 4-12-10), we likely were in hosp at same time! And I ditto your results, Dr. Rector and team were great and my recovery is likewise going very well.
The Game Ready is VERY expensive if one buys one (like $2500.00), but usually one can lease one like Hench or me…even if insurance doesn’t cover the renting….its WAY worth the rental cost for the icing and compression the system uses. Helped me immensly with swelling and assists with compressions (esp good to prevent DVT). Dr. Rector’s team highly recommended it for good reason, glad I have it!

I am nearly 5 week post op and have the some limitations. My Doc says flextion of knee to same side shoulder (no crossing centerline) – so no 90 degree rule either. I have same exercise limitations – walking, bicycling, swimming and exercises (as much as I like with pain as my guide). I mainly listen to others on this site and my Doc of course, and just continue what I am doing, increasing length or time slowly, and be patient. I have to keep remembering that I just went through a major surgery and my body needs time to heal. I will help it all I can, but will be patient with the healing.

I’m 7 weeks post op (LBHR). I had a different medication for blood thinning called Fragmin, & I had to administer it every day for 20 days post op. I am having a normal and/or a somewhat speedy recovery, especially the first 4 weeks. I am told by my doctor and others that, the number one post op issue, or a frequent post op issue with resurfacing is DVT (deep vein thrombosis) which can lead to more serious blood clots in lungs etc.
I am 7+ weeks post op and never had any of the symptoms of tenderness or the like at the surgical site at 5-6+ weeks.

I am 9 weeks post op. I have progressed well I think and am walking daily about 2-3 miles (for last 5 weeks or so) and continue some PT as well. I am 55 years old and not really an athlete but reside in country at about 8500 ft. in elevation. My walking is going great but recently tried some biking on a smooth surface (although inclined some) and noted it was extremely difficult, even though I was using a mountain bike with lower gearing., and its fitted to me properly, I could barely bike 2 miles without being exhausted, .not so much leg fatigue but very winded. I’m puzzled as I get a very aerobic walk for nearly an hour almost every day, so I was disappointed with my biking performance. Felt like I hadn’t been doing what I should have to get my body in order after surgery .Very depressed.

I am 10 week post op and have existing lumbar spine issues. Some of my back pain went away after surgery and some returned after surgery. I continued walking, as this also a very good treatment for back pain and back issues, but the back pain seemed to increase. I continued my PT and walking even more and worked through the back pain and it went away, but that’s just me. I noted that for me that initial back pain was improved after surgery which to me indicating that the hip resurfacing improved conditions, but during rehab when my back pain increased I wasn’t sure. Determined that my back was probably not strong enough. I continued walking
