Leonardo’s Hip Resurfacing Dr. Velkes 2008
December 13, 2008
My name is Leonardo and I did Resurfacing on my left hip on 4/12/08 by the doctor Steven Velkes in Israel.
First I would like to thank Pat for the great Website that helped me a lot   !!!
I’m 36 years old and the reason was a severe Arthritis that eats all my cartilage.
I looked for the different choices and understood that THR is not a good idea at my age.
For the last 6 month I have been with a terrible pain when walking and standing.
Right now I’m one week post op and feeling better every day.
On the other hand my feelings are confusing.
I’m a positive person, but right now I don’t feel so good and I’m all the time thinking about what will happen now. I’m so young !!!
I’m counting years…… and if I will need an additional operation I could find myself with no more options……
Although the head of the femur was not so strong the doctor told me that it was good enough for the operation, I wonder how can I do to preserve it strong? Please your recommendations.
In addition, when I look at the X-ray I see that the 54mm capsule took lot of space in the acetabular bone and I’m worry about future operations and the lack of space there.

I’m 5 weeks post op and feeling great, just a little pain but almost walking normally without crutches.
The only problem I have is that I still cannot wear the sock because of the angle…

I’m four month post op and doing great.
I had a talk with my doctor regarding the walker in the gym.
He told me that doing bike in the gym is ok but the walkers are not good for us because the braking system of the walker is problematic.
So, the best is to walk outside and enjoy the view.

I’m now 2 years after my resurfacing and doing great.
Although I’m feeling good, almost every night before I go to sleep I’m concern about how long my hip will last…. Is this normal???
In addition (and this may be because I’m a person that always need to be in control and prepare for the future) I wonder, god forbid, if one day I will need to do a revision, how would I know? I mean… may be one day I’ll not be able to walk, just like this…. or it will start with pain…… (I fly quite often because of my work)
I’m really a positive person and I hope that I’ll never need a revision in the future, I just want to be prepared.
I don’t regret at all about the operation, it really gave me my life back.
BTW, I go to the gym 2-3 times a week, I also swim and do Tai Chi (very recommended)
