I had my hip resurfacing done Tuesday at Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital by Dr John McLaughlin. Surgery went smoothly. Home Wednesday. Feeling pretty good but tired. Note I’m a 65 year old male. Still active, and able to do HIIT (with modifications) and running (with walk breaks) before surgery. Booked in for bilateral CoC on 5 March in Brisbane with Dr Weinrauch. Feeling a little apprehensive about getting both hips done at once but surgeon said lefty is also too far gone for arthroscopy to be beneficial. So my choices were either keep getting steroid injections or do the surgery which didn’t seem like much of a choice really.

** March 15, 2025 will be my 19 year Anniversary ** of receiving my BHR Birmingham Hip Resurfacing from Dr. De Smet in Belgium in 2006. During these years, I’ve carefully tracked hip resurfacing outcomes and patient experiences. What I find most encouraging is that 73% of hip resurfacing patients can run within 5 years after surgery, while only 32% of traditional hip replacement patients achieve this milestone.
