Just wanted to update the progress of my resurfaced hip done on August 18th. Three days ago I finished a 3000km bike ride from the very top of New Zealand to the very bottom and for the entire ride I had zero issues. In fact I’d forgot that it had even been done at all it was so good!

The active 53-year-old found out she was a candidate for hip resurfacing, which preserves more bone than a traditional hip replacement. Dr. Edwin Sue at the Hospital for Special Surgery performed the procedure on Polis.
Update 2017 I not only finished what is arguably the most difficult full iron distance triathlon race (Challenge Full Wanaka, NZ) in the world but was honored to achieve a 2nd place award in my age group (60-69)! January 29, 2017 I am about 8 ½ years out at this point. I also am very happy with my resurfaced hip from Dr Gross. At 65 I am still skiing hard 6 to 8 hours every day during the winters, and surfing, tennis, and windsurfing every day during the summers.
I had my second Birmingham hip resurfacing surgery done by Dr. David Palmer just this past May. I was so pleased with the patient care that I received but most of all with Dr. Palmer. I cannot believe how good I feel now just 7 weeks post op.

January 8, 2017 – In June, 2015, about three years after my HR, I did a tandem jump. It was my first skydiving experience ever. I didn’t even think twice about my hip for this. After running a marathon, skiing, playing ice hockey, long jumping, and sprinting it didn’t even occur to me that there’s be anything special to worry about for this.
Its now 30 months Post Op, [7/7/2014] and everything is just great with my hip. I have no worries or problems doing Triathlon, so long as I keep it to Standard Olympic Distance/Sprint Distances only.
Swimming and Biking pose no issues, but once I start running in excess of 12km, whammo, the pain starts to arise. Any thought of doing a Half Ironman is “out the back-door”. I find I can manage 3 Run sessions … Read the rest
January 2, 2017 – Just wanted to share an update. I am a bilateral resurfacing with Dr Su. I am a year and 10 days out and climbed(hiked) Mt Greylock in Massachusetts on 12/31/16. Deep snow which required some post hole-in. Tired and sore(except the hips) handled it much better then the other fifty year olds did.
