I am 33 and had a LBHR done by Dr. Pritchett this winter. I too have skied all my life……backcountry, resort, heli, halfpipe, terrain park, all of it. I’ve heard of people retiring to ski after hip resurfacing, but not necessarily at a high and aggressive level. I was 33 when I had my first on 12/23/08 and 34 when I had my second on 12/23/09. My initial resurfacing had an alignment issue, causing noise (audible squeaks, pops, etc.). Over the course of my first 18 months, the situation deteriorated, and I finally got a blood test done. Going on 4 years post BHR right side and I still get bone pain when walking too far on hard surfaces on that side. Yet I can put hiking boots and a pack on do 16 miles on mountain trails and even alpine climbing no problem. Likewise with long bicycling.
