December 9, 2009 Ah, yes, the bed-and-sleeping breakthrough showed up yesterday. I was able to get my leg into the bed unassisted, and I actually did sleep on the affected side for a short time last night. Sleeping on the unaffected side has been increasingly more comfortable, which I’m happy about since I am a side sleeper, too.
I don’t need stitches out at all.

March 27, 2011 I am 56 years old and I just had my HR done with Dr. Gross (March 23) and there were a couple of surprises. The first surprise was that I now have one leg (mildly) longer than the other.

I took the pain pills before I felt I needed them and that worked great, not much pain to deal with. I have taught and coached high level skiing for 46 years, the past 8 years on my resurfaced hip. Dr Gross encouraged me to ski on it, and I started skiing at six months post surgery. I have heard of people rarely having trouble with THRs when skiing; dislocations, femoral fractures. February 17, 2010 Dr. Della Valle resurfaced my right hip on 12/18/09. Tomorrow will be 2 months and I feel great. I can put my socks on, tie my shoes and even clip my toe nails. 2004 Resurfacing by Dr. De Smet of Belgium. I have played hockey 2 days a week since, snow boarding, running and still going strong. Guess I wore out the natural one.

My Rt. hip was resurfaced by Dr. De Smet in Oct 2004 and still feels like new. I’ve had no problems in the almost ten years since surgery. My total experience with Dr. De Smet was wonderful; and if my other hip ever needs surgery I’ll return to him in a heartbeat.
I’ve referred several friends to your excellent website.

I’m 4-and-a-half years out on my revision to THR (a la De Smet) and going strong. I would also say that the two year mark was an important dividing line in my recovery from THR surgery. Per-op (X-rays, blood test and EKG etc) was done in Dr de Smets Anca Clinic on Monday. I then checked in Jan Palfijn Hospital. I recommend that you make sure in which room you are (single double four people) well before your check-in.

August 8, 2012 I am from Canada too and I just had a bilateral HR, july 3 rd with Dr Koen De Smet in Belgium. I am very happy with the outcome though obviously still in recovery mode(5 weeks ). August 20, 2010 I was sent unceremoniously to the reception Tuesday morning at 7.00 and told “ticket number 20.” Administration was simple but they said I had been booked a room for two but they have none, so I will be in a room for four.
