Well I am now officially a bilat.
The operation was not routein however. It took Mr Treacy 45 mins and there were some complications. I bled an awful lot in theatre and think there was a lot of Spurs and osteophyte as well as my dysplasic socket.
I had to be kept in recovery for about 3 hours as there was no bed space on the wards. When I was taken to the ward my condition RAPIDLY declined and I ended up going into cardiac arrest. The crash team had to be scrambled and they had to restart me. Feel better now but not great.

Update 3 more MASSIVE seizures today I’ve been on the icu ward since 10:00 this morning I think now.
Jss no longterm damage had been mentioned as yet however they are looking at epilepsy
However right at the top of the suspect list is one of the chemicals used in the spinal sorry its name escapes me they thinki have a massive allergic reaction to this which is very very rare my anestist has seen 2 in 25 years. This can cause massive fits and spasms like I’ve been having and like what happend yesterday.

I am back home at my parents now.
I have developed a really nasty oral infection which is making swallowing nigh on impossible.
My leg is ridiculously sore and swollen. One of the other patients on the ward with me his son was an orthopeadic surgeon and I had some very interestng chats with him. He was invited to a bhr surgery by Mr Treacy and he said he’s never seen anything like it he used the words poetry in motion. I spoke to him about the fact that Mr T had told me it as a particularly hard operation and he felt the reasons for this were probably the sheer size of my legs, the terrible rom, he said the capsule will have tightened up and thickened and also the very large bone spurs. He felt they would have had to use a massive force to dislocate and will have had to cut a huge amount of muscle to gain exposure. He said I was likely in for a long and slow recovery. Which is what I feel it will be. I am currently struggling to even get to the bathroom and it’s just too painful to do anything other than ice in bed.

Well I am now 9 weeks post op from my second BHR. The first 7weeks were very very slow going for me. However last week at 8 weeks post op I joined a local gym to try and do some of my own rehab. I have now built up to be able to do an hour comfo
rtably of cardio on the bikes and cross trainers as well as some light weights to help strengthen the muscles.
Since starting back at the gym my ROM has drastically increased and I am getting stronger. I still have reasonable start up pain/stiffness in the morning and if I’ve been sat down for several hours but from memory that will go in the coming months.
I am really looking forward to using this new bhr when I’m cleared to get back into impact sport again

10 weeks today and progress has plateaued a little. I have worked up to being able to do an hour and a half of cardio in the gym on the static bikes and cross trainers. ROM improvement has stalled but that’s to be expected so I’m not beating myself up about it!

I’m now a bilat of 4 months and I’m slowly working back to getting on the mat. I’ve done a couple of very light sessions so far but will build up slowly.

I am now a bilat hippy. After my first BHR in 2011 i went back to judo and did a few comps. I even took a bronze medal in one of them. I tried to get back on the mat a few months ago but my new hip just wasnt ready for judo at that stage so will be leaving that till next year and ill try again. I am however back boxing and by all accounts looking quite good.

I’m now coming up 13 weeks and today I cycled to the gym. I’m no where near what my ROM will be in time but it was already far easier to swing my leg over the bike than the lay time I rode about 6 months ago!
Also I’m back to work tomorrow

I am a Treacy Bilat and am one of the younger members on her i think. 28 at the time of my left 32 for my right. I am back training in judo, bjj and boxing. I also do some jogging and lots in the gym. I intend to try and complete an ironman probably in 2017/18. I have had all of the condisending crap from loads of people including some surgeons who when asked to back up their stupid statements with published evidence couldnt!
I am a huge Treacy fan he’s done more BHR’s than ANYONE and i was told by a family friend who happens to be a hip surgeon if he had to have an arthroplasty in the hip then Mr Treacy would be the man he would go to and that is a very big endorsement from a well renowned surgeon himself!
Don’t listen to the nay sayers. i find it quite ammusing when ive just choked some cocky arrogant idiot half unconcious and they ask why i’ve not competed for years and my reply is im coming back form a double hip replacement they are gobsmaked
