G’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Amstutz 2011
December 8, 2016 Update
I have been away from the site for 5 plus years… It’s like I never left…
Then the resistance to HR was very evident by the THR community.
I had had a very bad bone on bone for years, my wife of 50+ years (great years) was in chemo for lymphoma.. when she passed.. I went 2200 miles west to Dr Amstutz.
I was 77. Dr A thought the hip was a mess BUT he agreed to do the Resurf.
Now at 82, I do anything I want, climb ladders, crawl in a trawler bilge, am building a motorhome..etc etc.
I have a few local people I know with bad experiences with THR’s…revisions, pain etc.
Soooo I would not do a THR but I am but 1 voice.. in the end it’s your body.
If I had any advice -Get experience, not someone refusing the tough cases(“we don’t do anyone over 62”) the good guys are not trying to run up the score with the easy cases!!!
I live in SC and had to go to LA to get past the age barrier…

I was 76 when resurfaced. Now 4 years later, no issues, very active.
Hip was way past needing work, wife of 49 yrs had lymphoma, could not leave her. When she passed, Dr Amstutz agreed to work on hip. Took 3 hours, BUT no issues now. Ex F8 Crusader pilot, went to Midway in SD on 9th day after op and climbed into F8 cockpit without assistance.
Currently finishing dream home (4th), Building RV and redecking a Formula 233 boat..
Dr A is a prince, it’s too bad he is not 30 years old! I tried to get hip done on east coast but “I was too old.” These doctors some day may be my age and need a resurf . Dr A took a really bad hip and gave me my life back.
