Gino’s Bilateral Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Drinkwater 2010
August 30, 2010 I’m 54, sons 12 and 16 in hockey and I want to skate again with them. Heck, I want to be able to tie my own shoes again! After research here, I had the right hip resurfaced BHR in Rochester NY by Dr. Drinkwater on 6/23. Left one coming up 10/27, can’t wait. Surgery took 1 hr 20 mins. In on Wednesday, home on Saturday.
October 14, 2010] For my right hip resurface in June I had a spinal below and general up top, a shot of versed just before all this. The tops of my thighs were very numb for 2 months, worse on the left (unoperated). In the last month or so it has subsided to about 5% left leg, 2% right leg. I had awful shooting and burning pain in my left hip area for several weeks after the surgery. Oxy helped a little for that, but not much. I’m figuring it had to do with my two bum discs in my lumbar area (right where the spinal goes) and sciatica, which is predominantly on my left side/leg. I’m waiting to hear from the anesthesiologists about a different plan before my left hip gets done in two weeks, I don’t want to go through that again, or worse.
October 26, 2010 Had the right one done 6/23
October 29, 2010 this one went smoother than the first!! Dr. Drinkwater is superb. Heading home tomorrow.
I had both hips done with cemented BHRs
November 9, 2010 It will be two weeks tomorrow for the surgery. Staples came out yesterday by the visiting nurse, ditched the walker, been getting around with the cane this week. Some swelling issues but not nearly as blown up as the right one was. Some numbness in the non-op leg like last time, on the surface of the thigh, and occasional pain jabs there when trying to get adjusted in bed, I attribute that to my lousy lumbar discs. Hopefully it will diminish as time goes on. Deer season opens 11/20, I’m hoping I can hobble out into the woods at least for opening morning!! Last year was absolute agony. By Christmas God willing I should be pretty much back to normal. We are so fortunate to live in a time when we can be repaired like this!
March 17, 2010 Now, almost 9 and 5 months out respectively I almost forget I’ve had them done. ZERO pain. Range of motion and activity improving daily. It’s life changing.
