Kelly’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Schmalzried 2009

I had my left hip resurfaced on Monday July 27th with Dr. Schmalzried in Los Angeles. I was home from the hospital on Wednesday the 29th. The following Monday, August 4th I was able to be a wife to my husband again, although I wasn’t as active a participant due to some restrictions. However, a few days later I was just about back to normal. No one was more surprised than I was!!!

I am approaching 4 weeks post op. I think everyone has to go at their own pace and listen to your body. I asked my Dr 3 times in the hospital how long I would be on crutches and he wouldn’t and said he couldn’t answer me but I would know when the time came. I was walking with crutches for about 2 1/2 weeks, then a cane for a few days and then nothing. The time between crutch and nothing was quick. However, I am not working yet and doing pretty intense pt 3 times a week. I was sore yesterday and didn’t get off the couch.

My surgery was on July 27th and I feel fantastic. I walked with my husband and my dog today on our local beach trail and went 2 1/2 miles.
