Peter’s Bilateral Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Su 2015
August 21, 2015
I live in CT and was diagnosed a year ago that I need a bilateral hip replacement. I currently have pain in only my left so that is the one i am seeking a surgeon for. I am 52 years old and very active and fit. I would like to do the hip resurfacing and thought I was going to book my date with the dr I visited today. he is highly regarded and has done thousands of replacements but only hundreds of resurfacing. he does everything through the anterior approach.
I just watched a video by Dr Su at HSS who said he does all his resurfacing through the side or back. I also read a disappointing post from a women who need Dr Su to fix a poor resurfacing by the same doc I saw today. I also have an appointment to see Dr Su but it is not until December.

Had my left hip resurfaced by Dr Su yesterday. I am concerned ( yet grateful) over the lack of pain and discomfort. I am sore but Tylenol seems to be the only thing I need to be comfortable. I have had less involved procedures in the past that I needed a few days of narcotics. Has anybody else had the same experience. I also need my right done and would have done them both if I knew it would be this easy.

I called Su’s office and was put on the cancellation list. Was fortunate to get one. Had my left done on 12/21. One overnight and down to tylenol within 48 hrs. Definitely harder then the first ( but the first was so easy). I think the difference was my first was early in the morning and I was able to get up twice and walk that same day. This time the surgery was later in the afternoon and it was 23 hours before they got me out of bed. Dr Su was great but I found some of the other support people at HSS were not as amazing as they were the first time.

I am a bilateral patient of Dr Su’s. Left hip in Sept 15 and Right in December 15. I could not be happier with the results. Dr Su was great, HSS was great and the recovery was great. Went home the next day after each surgery and needed only Motrin for the pain. I am just about back to everything I was doing before surgery.

Just wanted to share an update. I am a bilateral resurfacing with Dr Su. I am a year and 10 days out and climbed(hiked) Mt Greylock in Massachusetts on 12/31/16. Deep snow which required some post hole-in. Tired and sore( except the hips) handled it much better then the other fifty year olds did.
