Decreased head-neck ratio diameter and component malposition in total hip arthroplasty are factors known to result in impingement, increased rates of dislocation, wear and failure. In addition to these complications, impingement of the femoral neck on the acetabular component of a hip resurfacing may result in femoral neck fracture and loosening of the acetabular component. Little is known |

Read Complete Study by clicking hereMay 2011Despite being proclaimed as “The operation of the century,” total hip arthroplasty is far from an ideal procedure. In fact, one study found that “in spite of a good hip score, only 43% of patients had all of their expectations completely fulfilled,” said Robert L. Barrack, MD, chief of service, Orthopedic Surgery, at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo. Although patient selection is rarely an |

Can I have an MRI after I had a hip resurfacing? This is a question many people ask after having a hip resurfacing. This is Dr. Rubinstein’s answer: MRI is perfectly safe with any orthopaedic implant (joint replacements, fracture hardware screws and others). The implants may degrade the picture quality in the areas right near the implants but no harm will come to the implants or the surrounding bone. Pacemakers are another story and are |

Failed BHR & surgeon experience August 02, 2008 I am 18 months post LBHR and I am posting today with the hope that I can spare anyone contemplating the resurfacing procedure the consequences of choosing a surgeon with insufficient experience. I chose a surgeon who had only recently trained in England, I was his 7th resurfacing procedure. I justified the decision because he was local and had a stellar reputation. I foolishly reasoned that he |

The Birmingham (Smith & Nephew, Richards) total HSR was the first to get FDA approval in the US based on an unprecedented FDA decision to approve this implant on the basis of single (developing) surgeon’s foreign data. Cormet 2000 ( Corin Ltd., Stryker) total HSR was the first to be approved based on the usual mechanism of a US run Multi-center FDA study( approval 7/2007, I was the lead investigator). TRENTON, N.J. – Federal regulators have ordered medical device maker Stryker Corp. to fix a host of long-standing problems in its manufacturing of hip replacement parts that have triggered multiple patient complaints and forced some to have follow-up surgeries. Stryker shares fell almost 2 percent. |
Link July 11, 2008 As the incidence of metal-on-metal hip resurfacing has increased in recent years, especially in younger patients, research published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery – British Volume (JBJS-Br) discusses occurrences of “pseudotumours” as a result. The researchers estimate that approximately 1% of patients who have metal-on-metal hip resurfacings develop pseudotumours within five years of treatment. A pseudotumour is ‘a soft-tissue mass associated with the implant…neither malignant nor infective in |

Date:07/01/2007 HEALTHWATCH Revolutionary surgery Hip resurfacing: Fewer risks, more benefits. ARTHRITIS of the hip joint is a common problem in India. It occurs due to damage to the joint from various conditions such as Osteoarthritis (wear and tear arthritis), avascular necrosis (death of the bone due to lack of blood supply), trauma or injury (previous hip fractures), infection, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and other diseases. It causes severe pain, stiffness, deformity, decreased mobility and severe |
I am 4 days post-op (in 4 hrs) and doing fabulous. We are all different patients, but Mercy Mt Shasta and staff is the best hospital I’ve ever been in and Dr Ure’s office staff is stellar. Don’t let the small town keep you away. The hospital is the cleanest and pristine and nursing staff has a lot of ortho experience. Here’s my story, but feel free to get back to me with questions.

I have now done about 185 resurfacings for AVN cases over a 5 year period with many patients crossing the 4 yrs mark. It is interesting to note there has not been a collapse or fracture neck of femur even in a single patient. It is wrong to think that the AVN continues forever in the femoral head. AVN is a one time event in which a strikingly similar sector of necrosis occurs |
