This month marks 10 Years for my Birmingham hip resurfacing. Surgery performed by Dr. David Palmer at St. Croix Orthopedics. Still going strong with no issues.
My Original Story is Below
November 20, 2010
I am 2 years post. Last November I celebrated my one year BHR by riding the 100 mile Maah Dah Hey trail in North Dakota on my mountain bike in one day. My hip performed flawlessly. This last summer … Read the rest

I have about a week before my surgery next week. I’m a 49 year old female, born with hip dysplasia. I’m an avid rower and a cyclist and I’ve had bone-on-bone arthritis for at least two years. I was able to ride and row all season, and even got in one of each over the holiday weekend, which I’m happy about.
If it weren’t for this site I’d be having a hip … Read the rest

Had a BHR on my left hip last Sept 20. I had had arthritis from a previous hip fracture accompanied by severe IT/knee pain. Post-procedure, everything had been going extremely well–I was following the fairly conservative recovery program prescribed by my doctor (no lifting or weight training, no high impact for a year post surgery) and I felt really perfect, but all of the sudden one day a couple weeks ago, it … Read the rest

On the 7th July, 2017 , I celebrated my 3rd Anniversary of BHR Left side. Wow, how the time has disappeared and how I am able to compete “pretty well” in Triathlon, all be it , at Sprint and Standard Distance.
The hip has never been better and I attribute this to alot of patience in the re-hab,[ a fantastic “nurse”- the wife] ,lots of precise, … Read the rest

Just wanted to update the progress of my resurfaced hip done on August 18th. Three days ago I finished a 3000km bike ride from the very top of New Zealand to the very bottom and for the entire ride I had zero issues. In fact I’d forgot that it had even been done at all it was so good!
In November I’m off to climb Vinson, the highest mountain in Antarctica and I’m sure that … Read the rest
November 19, 2016 UPDATE – my left hip’s second birthday!
All is still well. I suspect the scar will always feel a bit strange but the joint itself is great and gives no concern despite all the use it gets, which includes 46 5km races, one 10km race and bike rides up to 55 miles in the last 12 months. It has also been subjected to a fair amount of walking, rock climbing/bouldering and gym … Read the rest
Pro BMXer Kevin Robinson had a hip resurfacing procedure performed on October 16, 2013. This video goes into the operating room to tell his story. This contains some extreme images of the surgical procedure and his riding.
The video is produced by Scott Moroney. A special thanks to Dr. Bob Marchand for opening up this new world to our camera.

The following is an account of my bilateral hip resurfacing adventure gathered
from some emails I had sent and some of which were posted on the Surface Hippy
website. I hope they will give an insight for anyone interested in traveling to
Belgium for hip resurfacing with Dr. Koen De Smet.

Steve spoke with several of our previous BHR patients before undergoing the procedure himself in October 2014. Now 10 months following his surgery, he would love to pay it forward and speak with any prospective BHR patients that have questions about the procedure or our innovative HipHab rehab process.
"It’s been 10 months since my right BHR and things couldn’t be better. I am completely without pain in my hip. I take pleasure even in … Read the rest

Floyd Landis is coming back to cycling, and says his sport will be better for it.
Landis’ feel-good story came to halt when he was stripped of his 2006 Tour de France victory following a doping scandal and protracted fight in courts around the world. He said Thursday he feels “like a kid again” knowing that his two-year ban from cycling will end next week.
“In my mind, it’s already behind me,” … Read the rest
Greetings from Houston, Texas! On December 10, 2008 I had a Cormet Hip Resurfacing prosthesis using the direct anterior approach performed by Dr. Stefan Kreuzer. The anterior direct approach (also known as "Smith Peteresen") is relatively rare in the U.S. as many surgeons have not yet been trained with this approach. The reported benefits of the direct anterior approach are the avoidance of detaching the major muscle groups from bone to access the femur … Read the rest

Dear Dr. Rogerson and Team,
I have had the Birmingham Hip for over three years in my left hip and it is doing great. I have degenerative arthritis, similar to my mother who had to have her hips replaced when she was about my age; I am 55 years old. Arthritis started in my hip when overtraining for a marathon in 1997 and progressed until needing a hip replacement in 2009. My … Read the rest
