Jim in SC Hip Resurfacing Failures Can Happen
I am sorry to report that my 5 years and 8 months hip resurfacing has failed. The cap ( mfg. Corwin) on the femoral head has worked partially loose…..moving slightly. The pain is pretty bad and Dr. Gross is scheduling me for THR using the big ball metal socket (Corwin) that remains well attached. Corwin is making the THR ball to fit and as soon as the FDA approval letter gets here I am going to give up my resurfaced hip. I discussed twice to get Dr. Gross to consider repairing the loose cap with hi-tech glue and some surgical expertise but he says absolutely no way. I have been very active physically since a fast recovery from RR five years ago. Prior to hip resurfacing surgery I was so limited physically that once “fixed” I did everything but Triathlons. I would resurface my hip again if given the chance and recommend the procedure to anyone. My failure was self caused and I advise resurfaced people to live active but do not bound about like a teenager just because the resurfaced hip feels so normal. It can come loose. Jim in SC |
