Hip Resurfacing at Surface Hippy Posted on December 16, 2020 by Patricia WalterDecember 16, 2020
Steve’s Original Story   https://surfacehippy.info/steve-lee-hip-resurfacing-dr-su-2008/
1 year anniversary RBHR and 12 year anniversary LBHR X-rays OK Lab report:  Chromium 2.4 ng/ml, cobalt 4.2 ng/ml OK I’ve been active hunting, fishing, skiing, swimming and jogging on a treadmill and feeling great!
Skied backcountry November 25, 2020. Preseason skiing since the Eaglecrest ski area doesn’t officially open until Dec 5. I hiked up with skins attached to skis from the lodge to the top of the mountain. I had a late lunch in the warming hut at the top. I removed the skins, adjusted the bindings and boots and skied down and felt great! The snow had stiffened up later in the afternoon as temperatures dropped and was crusty and daylight was fading after sunset so I stayed

Hip Resurfacing at Surface Hippy Posted on October 19, 2020 by Pat WalterOctober 19, 2020
On May 7th 2020 I decided to have resurfacing surgery on my right hip to finally fix my bone on bone issue I been dealing with the last 3 years! The Country’s stoppage was a blessing in disguise for me in terms of allowing me to have the time to recover from this surgery and be mentally & physically ready for the upcoming 2020-2021 NBA season. I’m feeling amazing and grinding everyday! My story is far from over, THE MARATHON CONTINUES!!! 🏁🏁🏁… Read the rest

Spartacus Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Su 2020

Hip Resurfacing at Surface Hippy Posted on August 26, 2020 by Patricia WalterAugust 26, 2020

I fractured my right hip in a cycling accident in October 2017 (age 26). Three screws were put in to hold the femoral neck together. The surgeon gave me some warnings at the time: (1) He preferred the ORIF to a THR because he felt it was likely I’d need more work later in life, so wanted to preserve as much bone as possible, even though it would be a more difficult recovery up-front. (2) A majority of fractures like mine eventually lead to arthritis.

After a very slow recovery I was back to running 6 months after the accident. I even set a personal record for a 5k race in late 2018, which I was quite proud of, as I was never a runner … Read the rest

19 Year Old Jon Figley’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Su 2019

Hip Resurfacing at Surface Hippy Posted on March 4, 2020 by Patricia WalterMarch 4, 2020

I had the hip resurfacing procedure with Dr. Su in June of 2019 at the age of 19. I was injured at my home when I was 10 years old, I slipped and did the splits. At the time I thought I injured my groin, however it never got better. Within a month or so I was diagnosed with necrosis of the hip, and began my journey.

I was treated at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore as they have a well-regarded Perthes treatment center. Since I was so young, and Perthes causes the same thing I was treated as a Perthes patient, and at 10 had an external fixator put in place in order to distract the hip and allow the femoral head to heal. Unfortunately … Read the rest

Hip Resurfacing at Surface Hippy Posted on October 25, 2019 by Patricia WalterOctober 25, 2019

It’s been 2 weeks since my surgery by Dr Su .I am very happy with the surgical outcome (so far) and also feel the HSS hospital is extremely professional. I traveled from Israel to NY ,was assigned a coordinator for overseas patients,Katherine Alcantara who escorted me on the pre-op examinations and helped with all the logistics. All email and phone consulting was handled very efficiently by Dr Su’s PA Jesse.

I was an active runner completing 8 marathons from 2005-2016. Around 2 years ago I started having pain during running .I tried Pilates &Phisiotherapy. After about 6 months I went to an Orthopedist who after examining my X-rays told me I have OA of my right hip. He suggested to wait as long as I … Read the rest

Peter’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Su 2018

Hip Resurfacing at Surface Hippy Posted on October 1, 2019 by Patricia WalterOctober 1, 2019
I am  a little over a year after my left hip resurfacing with Dr. Su, I have fully returned to all pre-surgery activities. I run 2-3 miles periodically, and I free weight squat and deadlift regularly and with moderately heavy weight. I occasionally have mild soreness and every now and then will experience a “clunk,” but my hip feels totally normal most of the time and feels very durable. I have converted from worrying about a full recovery to worrying about how long it will last! I hear so many stories of the implant lasting a lifetime! Here’s hoping!

On April 11 2018 I had hip resurfacing surgery by Dr. Edwin Su at the Hospital for Special Surgery. I had waited 10 years too long. Christina’s 2 Year Update for Hip Resurfacing with Dr Su 2016 at age 27

Hip Resurfacing at Surface Hippy Posted on August 8, 2018 by Patricia WalterAugust 26, 2018

I just thought I’d share with everyone that I am 2-years out from my hip-resurfacing with Dr. Su and I am still thrilled with the results. I am an athletic woman of average height and build. I was 27 years old at the time of surgery.

My journey since operation: I spent a very long time trying to get my strength back, which was lost not during the surgery, but during the injury. Limping around, having issues with stairs, and putting all pressure into my quads caused a lot of muscle loss in my hamstrings and glutes. It took me a long time to re-learn how to activate my posterior chain. I have been consistently strength-training 3x a week for a year now and I … Read the rest

WWE’s Big Show’s Update of Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Su 2017

Big Show’s Original Story Here

According to The Big Show, who opted for a hip resurfacing over a full out replacement to preserve the possibility of returning the ring, he is faster now, has better range of motion, and has more to give in the squared circle.

“Right now, [my] quality of life is really good. There’s no stiffness. My range of motion is ridiculous.” Big Show said, “I’m not done in the ring yet. Hell, I’m 380 lbs. I feel now, especially in my hip, has more range of motion now, and I’m faster than I moved in 17 [or] 18 years. I wrestled with Fit Finlay a little bit at WrestleMania. I got in there and rolled around the ring with Fit and … Read the rest

Hip Resurfacing at Surface Hippy Posted on February 10, 2018 by Patricia WalterApril 22, 2018

Published on Dec 17, 2017 – BHR The Past and the Future of Hip Resurfacing

Dr Edwin Su takes a look at the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) System’s 20 year history and outcome data from implant survival rates to opportunities for patients. In his closing slide Dr Su states that hip resurfacing can have advantages of THR including bone preservation, greater stability and a high activity level. He also says that hip resurfacing is alive and well for selected patients. There may only be a few surgeons performing hip resurfacing, but those who have experience with it are still strong advocates.

Hip Resurfacing at Surface Hippy Posted on October 17, 2017 by Patricia WalterOctober 22, 2017

Just had bilateral resurfacing with Dr. Su. I too was forced out of the butterfly after about 40 years playing, and became more of a Phil Esposito. I went in for surgery on a Thursday came out Saturday and was hobbling around my house on Sunday without my crutches. I’m 50 and the Same basic size as you. You should consider bilateral. I will post as I get deeper into the recovery and hit some milestones, for now totally pumped with where I am 3 days after surgery.
